Front Page Manager
Medium-Fidelity Prototyping
The pages below are prototypes and prototypes only. They may look and feel like the real deal, but they're not. The pages are made for desktop/laptop only and usable on screens from 1280px (MacBook 13") and up.
Teasers can be dragged and dropped, tool buttons do trigger actions and the select-boxes can be opened.
The "Latest aticles" is not searchable or can not be filtered.

Current version
- Current Version 3.0 |
[Documentation]
- Basicly ver 2.1 with new design based on the
Creation Suite design sketches - Removed drop down tool menu on click
- Removed "View Article Online"
- Moved stats/metrics from teasers to the side sheet
- Added tool bar visible on hover
- Added the side sheet: edit, data and stats/metrics.
- Added keyboard shortcuts (e.g. hover teaser + press E for edit/open side sheet)
Time is crucial when it comes to front-page editor work. Especially when it comes to breaking news section. That is why we need to be sure we enable keyboard shortcuts (as requested by the users) to empower fast and efficient workflows. - Added snackbar (a brief message about app processes at the bottom of the screen).
To see it in action > remove a teaser. - Modified drag and drop behaviour to a somewhat smoother experience
- TBD: Latest articles filters
- Basicly ver 2.1 with new design based on the
- FEEDBACK
- BUG Side sheet width to narrow. Must be the same width as one column. 33%
(Klaus Børringbo/AP) - REVERT Put back "View Article Online"
(Atle Brandt/RND, Liv Solli Okkenhaug/BT) | Git - REVERT Put back stats/metrics to be opened below every teaser. It's to time consuming to open the side sheet to check the numbers.
(Vegard Nekstad/FVN, Klaus Børringbo/AP, Rasmus Nikolai Nes/SchPT) | Slack - ADD "Lifetime" tag on articles listed in the search / published articles columns.
(Klaus Børringbo/AP) - ADD "Lifetime" filter in the search / published articles column.
(KlausBørringbo/AP) - ADD Timestamp for pinned teasers on hover. They struggle to know for how long a teaser has been pinned.
(KlausBørringbo/AP) - ADD Character counter in kicker/title input fields
- CHANGE In most newsrooms, articles with news value 0,5 and 1,0 aren't on frontpages. Hence, the first NV filter should be
0,5-1,0, not 0,5-1,5. | Git
(Frode Haugland Pedersen/RND) - IMPROVEMENT Usefull to un-pin all, when starting from scratch.
(Jan Stian Vold/BT)

On the sketchboard
- Version 3.0.1 - Compact Teaser View
- Added an option to toggle the teaser view, default and compact.
- Compact is ideal when editing on small screens, or if wou have many teasers in the columns.
- Version 3.1 - Content Overview MVP | [Documentation]
- Side sheet solution (same as in FPM)
- Same teaser design attributes, with a difference where “position” is replaced by ” %” of audience exposure
- Limited actions for the users: no drag&drop solution
- Version 3.1.1 - Content Overview
- Copying teasers (to paste them in the FPM)
Users should be able to paste the content that was copied from the Content Overview. This would apply for the B2B/B2C content that does not have 100% exposure (which would be desired by front editors that would put it on Top or Secured).
- Copying teasers (to paste them in the FPM)
- Version 3.2 - Multi User Support
- In bigger newsrooms it often happens that there are few front-page editors working in the same time in the tool. In current solution it is possible for several users to work in the tool simultaneously, however in not user friendly way - users do not see the changes other users provide and what content they edit, which leads to unconscious overrides and confusions.
- Version 3.3 - Bundles | [Documentation]
- Bundles are part of brand identity in Aftonbladet. They also play important role in other publications, like VG. Currently newsrooms that use Curate have to make them through story tags which is quite long and complicated process.
- Version 3.4 - Bundle Repository | [Documentation]
- Editors often create bundles beforehand. That can be due to the careful planning (eg. weekend content) or need of being ready for the scheduled events (eg. electoral results). FPM and CO support only published bundles. Creation of new bundles that are about to be published later (or not published at all) should happen outside those two tools (due to avoidance of unnecessary complexity of the product)
